Month: September 2006

  • Well…that was by far the worst miscarraige I have had physically.  I was in, what was very much like labor Wednesday night and Thursday morning and afternoon.  By 2:00 it subsided and I felt much better if it weren’t for the doctor visit I had that morning.  I went in and my doctor had some concerns with polyps, molor pregnancy, possible missed miscarraige, which could further complicate things.  The only way to really tell what was going on was to do a D and C.  I told him it was not a good weekend for that and I just couldn’t possibly do it.  He just looked at me and told me it had to be done tonight (Thursday) or Friday morning.  I realized that if it had to be done, last night was better because we already had Jeff babysitting for us while we were to be attending the temple.  So I was scheduled for last night.  Surgery is something that I need at least a few days to mentally prepare for and I didn’t have that this time.  I was a bit of a mess yesterday.  What a relief though to have Jeff on duty.  The girls love him and he was great with them all day.  He and Maren were watching them while I was at the doctor in the morning as well so he was at our home from 9am to 10pm on kid duty.  He was exhausted by the end of the day.  Thankyou so much Jeff and Maren.

The surgery went fine.  Oh, how I hate IV’s.  and we were home by 8pm.  I feel tired and my whole body is tired and sore from the whole ordeal.  Maren was here all morning making cinnamon rolls for conference tomorrow and washing beds for me.  Brian will be doing the house cleaning and the remaining grocery shopping.  I am so thankful for family that is willing to step in and take over when it is needed.

I am so glad this weekend is conference and we get to sit around.

  • We have been dealing with a little bit extra the past few weeks but didn’t want to say anything until we knew what was going on for sure.  I was suprised by a positive pregnancy test, but our happiness was short lived.  Another miscarraige to add to the books.  It was early and hopefully there won’t be any complications involved…Just a little disappointment.

  • Rosie is taking off more and more on her own.  We finally captured a bit of it.    Serra is also a big help when it comes time to feeding Rosie.  She is pretty good although a bit messy at feeding her by a spoon.

  • Sophia is all over the place half the time up on two.  She is still a little timid but will take up to 10 steps on her own before she crashes.  The funny thing is she still won’t go back and forth between us.  I have never heard of a baby that won’t do that.  Very independent.

We saw what Brian calls “shades of her Dad” in Serra this week.  When I picked her up from pre-school her teacher handed me her work that was not complete and told me she wouldn’t practive her A’s.  When I asked Serra about it she said, “It was too hard and I decided not to.”  I think she was tired from staying up too late the night before but I made her do it at home the next day nonetheless.

  • Rosie just keeps on keepin’ on.  I discovered her half-way up the stairs on Friday with a very smug look on her face as she stood at the gate bouncing up and down.  I had to sit on the stairs until Brian got home and could help me the gate to the bottom.  She wouldn’t stay off off them.  I give her opportunities now and then to climb them all by herself.  She thinks that’s pretty neat.  Wednesday she also took her first solo steps.  She went from one piece of furniture to another taking 3 steps.  She  isn’t thrilled about us coaxing her between the two of us but she will do it on her own occasionally now.  I am in the process of trying to wean Rosie because of some hormones I am taking that aren’t ideal for babies, and she does OK during the day, but struggles at night when she is tired.  Either way, she refuses formula of any kind, so I am trying to keep her hydrated with water and regular milk.  She is extremely gassy now.  I think that is the milk talking.  I wonder if it is still too early for her to start on regular milk?  We finally bit the bullet and gave her a little haircut.  Sophia is very opionated and in her opinion, getting her hair done in cute do’s is not fun.  She throws a screaming fit whenever I try.  I needed an alternative quick do so we cut some bangs.  She looks pretty cute and it’s much more manageable.

Serra is enjoying pre-school and seems to be making friends and doing well.  She is very proud of the work she brings home everyday.  I’m getting a little concerned about how worried she is about how cute she is all the time.  It is a big deal to her to look pretty and how others percieve her.  She always asks me what people will think or say about what she is wearing or how her hair is done.  We are trying to hammer it home that it doesn’t really matter what other people think.  She should only worry about how kind she is to others etc. I think we are making progress.  Maybe it’s a reflection on how much time and effort I always took with her keeping her clean and dressed cute.  She is looking forward to conference weekend when she sees cousins again.  She asks everyday how much longer now.

We woke up  Saturday and poked our heads outside expecting it to be warm and wouldn’t you know it…fall has arrived in Las Vegas.  It was in the 70′s and didn’t leave the mid 80′s for the hottest part of the day.  Delightful!  We don’t get much of a fall here, it will probably turn freezing in a few weeks and the heater will come on.  We kept the door open all day and I cleaned all day and shampooed the carpets with a cool breeze blowing through.  We had Maren solo with us on Saturday night (Jeff was working).  We went to a nearby state park and fed the ducks and had sloppy joes.  Serra was too excited about the ducks to do much eating.  It was fun though.  We have bread left over and promised Serra we would come back soon.

The 5K training is going well although I had to start walking instead of running.  My knees started giving me trouble.  They are feeling much better now though and I may pick up the speed a little.  I haven’t missed any of the workouts yet but Brian signed us up for 2 temple assignments in the next two weeks that interfers with it.  It is a worthy cause though and I will make up the workouts on my own.  I think it is actually good because it will get me out and thinking of continuing on my own after the run is over.

The girls were all dressed and ready for church yesterday morning so I threw up my back drop and snapped a few for Rosie’s 10 month pictures.  Serra of course wants a part too so we got some of them together.  My cute girls.

  •       We actually labored on Labor Day.  Our yard needed a little attention and so we spent a few hours sprucing it up.  We had to take out a Eucalyptus tree that was pretty much dead.  In it’s place we put a lemon tree we dragged from Santa Paula.  Lemons do well here so we hope it takes off.  We are storing Jeffs lawn mower as well and it is much appreciated to keep our small patch trimmed.  Desert landscaping is much easier to maintain than yards where water is more abundant.  A little trimming now and then and a little weed pulling once in a while.  We are enjoying Las Vegas and it has actully started cooling down.  It was 87 degrees while I was running last night and it actually felt cool.

Serra started pre-school last Tuesday and had a good time.  She had to paint her name and she said “I had to stay on the lines and it was super hard.”  She goes again today and I can tell she is excited although she pretends it’s no big deal.

Here are some pictures from Serra’s wedding.
