  • Serra has had a loose tooth for about a month and we tried a few things while she was still brave.  They didn’t work and she took herself and her loose tooth to New York and almost made it back to Vegas with it intact.  While at JFK in NY Brian took a look at it hanging there and reached in her mouth and plucked it out.  She called me at 4am to let me know the GREAT news.  The other tooth was already coming through.  The tooth fairy came the next night and left $2.  Now that’s inflation.  I remember 25 cents.

When they travelers returned we put up the Christmas tree and decorations.  I was pooped so the kids decorated the whole thing with the help of Daddy lifting them up to get stuff to the higher branches.  They did a great job and have been really good about leaving it alone.

I had an interesting Doctor visit yesterday.  My appointment was preceded with an ultrasound to check on baby’s size.  I am currently between 32 and 33 weeks.  The baby is measuring at 36 1/2 weeks and well over 6 lbs.  That is bigger than both Brian and I at our birth weights.  My doctor expressed some concerns because if the baby goes to term it will be well over 10 lbs.  When you go past 9 lbs. the threat of shoulder dystocia becomes real and very scary for both me and the baby.  He made the suggestion that we check progress at 36 weeks and if the baby is still on the high road to being a giant we induce at 37 weeks.  The downside to that is that in order to induce that early an amnio has to be done to make sure the lungs are developed enough.  The amnio can cause me to go into labor by making the water break or if  the needle punctures the cord the baby will have to be taken C-section then and there whether it is ready or not.  Also, I am not very good when it comes to needles, and that is one honkin’ needle.  Dr. Martin assured me he does not often make this suggestion, in fact, he has only done so once before.  I don’t like the idea of so much medical intervention on what should be a natural process but we work so hard to get these babies here I don’t want anything, especially size, creating problems by letting nature take it’s course.  It’s quite a decision.

Brian and I discussed it and we will make the determination after the next ultrasound.  They will have a better idea after comparing yesterdays and one at 36 weeks.  Either way, we will not be letting this baby go to term.  It will be at 37 weeks or a week and a half later when an induction can be done without an amnio.  YIKES!

  • Amnios can be a scary and risky solution. Did he suggest just giving steroids shots to aid in lung development? Maybe that’s just a 24 week preemie thing. I guess the amnio is to cover his heiny from a lawsuit. Hope you’re ready for #3—on the way!!!!!! You’ll be in our thoughts and prayers.–shayla

  • yikes… i dont even know what to say. so, i’ll say a prayer – congrats to serras loss!

  • Wow. I hate needles too. My sister’s first had shoulder dystocia though and it was not good. Scary no matter what it sounds like. Lots of prayers.

  • You bet it’s to cover his heiny.  There’s a reason malpractice insurance for physicians is off the charts high in this town.  People are sue happy.  My doctor is very concious of covering himself.  A 36 week old would most likely be just fine but not always so they do the amnio to make sure.

  • Come to my house with your kids & I’ll leave. You can take care of the 4 of them by yourself with all my stairs & then you’ll go into labor naturally. That’s an easier, less costly, & more fun (for me) solution.

  • And then you will have to take care of me for a few weeks until I have recovered enough to go home.  And less costly for who?  I would be paying out of network for Doctor Hospital and anisthesiologist… unless you want to deliver the baby…then you would have a fun mess to clean up.  Still think easier?  More fun?  Send me your resume on your experience with home deliveries and the dimensions of the bathtub you will never want to use again and we’ll talk.

  • $2 for a tooth? An outrage.

  • You know, you could be reported for the plier picture.  Trust me, I know.  What are you feeding that baby by the way?  Miracle grow? ~L

  • Reported for what?

  • You started the FIRST tooth fairy visit at $2?  Hope the construction business keeps going well, you are in for an expensive fairy bill!  As for the baby size, good luck.  Our last C-section was a must because the Dr. said the baby was over 9 pounds.  Turned out she just had a fat head (I am sure the fat heads are all from the other side of the family!) <grin>  Maybe the baby just needs more exercise to control the weight.  Have Brian poke the baby repeatedly to get some movement and exercise going.  Should help with the muscle development and with weight control! Dang, I shoulda been a Dr.

  • My babies do have fat heads but they measure other bones as well to get the measurement.  Judging from what Rosie was I am a believer.

  • Believer or not… here he/she comes!

Love the shots of the tree decorating.  How would it be not to have to stand on a chair or latter to decorate the tree!
