Month: July 2006

  • She has figured it out….Rosie isn’t superduper fast yet but she’s crawling.  She puts one knee down and one foot down and does a scoot.  Her motivation is dog food.  She see’s Mo’s dish and water at her level and that is where she heads constantly.  We have fished her out of the water and food stinking of the offensive substance countless times.  I think I may move it outside.  Last night I even got a piece of dog food out of her mouth.  She still won’t pick up food from her high chair tray and eat it but she will pop those nasty little tidbits in her mouth fast enough.  At least it’s not toxic, in fact, I hear it is rather nutritious.

For those dog lovers out there that can’t understand my consternation for the little black creature that dwells with us, let me expound on his last caper.  Mo is forbidden from the second level of our home.  In our last home he had a bad habit of desimating Serra’s toys and getting into my sewing drawer and eating pins.  Yes, he is a very good climber.  We tried keeping him locked up downstairs even at night for the first month here but he barked incessantly.  Very annoying.  So we moved his cage upstairs and started letting him SLEEP ONLY in his cage in the closet.  It has been working out rather well.  He would come up with us either when Serra, Rosie, or we went to bed, get locked up, and then downstairs he went with the first riser the next morning.  A few nights ago he followed Brian and Serra up for Serra’s bedtime and Brian lost track of him.  He figured Mo and gone back downstairs with me.  But NO, he was hiding, biding his time until the coast was clear.  Brian was busy reading Serra a story and going through the bedtime ritual and when he was done he found Mo waiting by his cage.  So, he locked him up.  It wasn’t until I went to bed a few hours later that I found the puddle.  ON MY BED!  The dog had climbed up there peed on my pillows and then waited to be put to bed.  I was so mad I couldn’t even go to sleep.  Brian just doesn’t understand why Mo insists on doing bad things.  I think he is evil.

In the mean time, the stolen check saga continues.  The bank won’t cover the checks, the police are in the process of an investigation, and yesterday Brian got a call from a collection agency working for Stamps By Mail, for the bounced check.  Yes, the business has been sent to collections.  Isn’t this fun!

Yesterday Serra was rifling through her toy box and found her sunglasses. “I was looking for these!  My sunbeam glasses!”

She also asked me this morning if she put both the Lilo and Stitch DVD and the Toy Story DVD in the player and the same time if there would be a movie with Woody, Lilo, and Stitch.  Sounds slightly logical.

  • I was a little frazzled on Sunday Morning trying to get to church, make sure I had my talk ready and together, get Serra delivered to her class, pass out sign up sheets for a big stake temple day coming up to the various ward organizations and make it to RS on time,  (RS is first)  because I had to lead the music and make an announcement.  But it all seemed to go without a hitch.  We made it through all the meetings and at the beginning of Sacrament meeting Serra’s teachers daughter brings me a curly straw with a weird gummy toy of Serra’s.  I knew then that Serra had smuggled the toys into primary and I felt bad.  But I needed to get through Sacrament meeting and the talk before I could deal with it.  The talks went well.  We spoke about pioneers of course.

After the meeting I went up to Brother Ellis, who is Serra’s primary teacher and began to apologize and make a promise that it wouldn’t happen again.  He started to laugh and said, ” Oh, but you have the hear the story behind it.”  Here it comes.  Serra was the first one to her class and as she walks in she says.  “hey, want me to show you something?”   Up came the dress and she started tugging on this straw that was holstered in her panties.  It got stuck because of the loops in it and so she starts tugging harder.  He said,”hold on a minute.”  and he had a sister in the ward come in to help untangle the said object.  As they untangled the straw and pulled it out the spidery gummy toy came up with it.  The little imp had holstered this thing in her underwear before we left for church and kept it a complete secret from me the whole way and walking through the church to her class.  She knows I don’t let her take ANYTHING to primary with her because of the distraction issue.  I can’t believe how sneaky she was.   Am I going to have to resort to complete body searches before church from here on out?  It looks like I am going to have to be on my toes with this one.

  • It must be something in the air.  We were contacted yesterday to speak in church this Sunday.  Fun for us.  Pioneers is the topic…go fig.

Every week the RS Presidency in our ward takes birthday cards to the less active women.  It is a great way to make contact with these sisters.  They can’t get rude and slam the door because we are there to wish them a happy birthday and give them a card.  We have a girl in the ward hand make all the cards like Maren does so they are really cute too.  I am amazed at how well this method of contacting everyone works.  I am getting to know the less actives a lot quicker than the actives though since that is who I am visiting with.  So far I am really enjoying the calling.

  • So we had a big storm last night.  It went on for about 5 hours.  Pretty impressive.

Rosie doesn’t fancy the floor too much anymore….now that she has wheels.

  • Here are some more…

  • Serra woke up yesterday with a rash on her neck and face.  We figured she got some of the herbicide on her that Brian sprayed outside for weeds.  It got worse as the day progressed and then she was up crying in the middle of the night with a tummy ache and fever.  Her rash had also spread to the rest of her body.  It looks awful.  I took her into the doc this morning and she has a strain of strep called Scarletina.  I’m glad I took her in because it can be treated with antibiotics and if Rosie shows any signs of illness she can be treated too.  Needless to say we are tired today.

Yesterday, however, before we realized she was sick, the sicky went and had a fun day with Adriane.  They went to the Y and swam for a few hours.  Adriane called me after a while and said they were coming home because she thought they were getting heat stroke even though they were in the pool.  112 degrees with excessive heat warnings this weekend.  It is nasty outside.  The air conditioning in the car can’t keep up with it.

I bought an upright freezer and it came yesterday.  I thought having the bigger freezer in the house would be sufficient, but when one likes to shop Costco it just doesn’t do.  I dulled the financial ache for Brian a little by putting an entire box of Otter Pops inside for his Otter Popping pleasure.  You should have seen the look of joy in his eyes when he saw them.  (I personally can’t stand the things, but he loves’em.)

While Serra was away yesterday, Rosie and I did an 8 month photo shoot.  Rosie was not pleased with the outfit I chose, but it had to be done and we got some good ones.  Here are some of my favorites.

  • Thanks Gary, for the tip.  Here are the girls being exceedingly loud.

  • Rosie really knows how to get going on this thing.

It won’t be long now.  I catch her standing on her feet with her hands on the ground all the time now.

Filming and feeding is not an easy thing to do.  Notice Serra in the background in these.

I had a really cute one of the girls singing very loudly together and it’s too big for youtube.  Bummer
