  • Things are slowly getting checked off the list.  After two long days of making repairs and $1,000 in treatment, our termite saga is over. Dallas came over and came to the rescue last Friday helping me (Brian) replace a rafter tail and get ready for our big inspection that day.  Actually he did all the work as I gave ideas from the safety down below. I wasn’t about to scale an extension ladder that’s only rated for 200 lbs. I’d given it the “old college try” but as I got higher on the ladder I realized that if I wanted to see my graduation date I’d better get some help.  Dallas end up spending several hours up in the attic cutting away a rafter and replacing it with a new 2×6……thank goodness for his help as we finished with very little time to spare.  We complained a lot about the termite report but once we actually got in to the repairs we were amazed at how much damage we actually ended up having.  It’s amazing what those critters can do to wood.  THANK YOU DALLAS…it’s good to have that behind us.

In other news, I’ve been busy taking care of other punchlist items that the buyer gave us off of the inspectors list.  Those items included fixing a sink, installing a GFI, installing smoke detectors in each bedroom, and getting a plumber out to install a water pressure regulator.  The first estimate that came in was for an eye-popping $550 but after Pam called around to a couple other plumbers we ended up getting it done for $180. Pays to shop around!  Just goes to show how these plumbers/inspectors are all about taking advantage of us sellers when time is of the essence.

School continues to bury me but I’m down to my last week.  One more big paper, a book to read, and a team project is still left to finish up, but the proverbial “light at the end of the tunnel” is getting mighty bright these days.  I can’t believe it’s so close….thank goodness as I’m feeling very DONE.

Pam has been busy organizing the house and getting stuff boxed up and the girls are doing great. Life is good.
